The New Face Of Topshop 2016

karlie kloss, topshop

As we enter the New Year, the world of fashion is ready for another season and that means yet another face for one of our favourite brands and webshops here at MyDress. That brand is Topshop! The iconic brand is utterly British in every way, so of course we are excited to see who has made the cut this year.

2016 sees Karlie Kloss become the new face for Topshop. The 23 year old supermodel has officially bagged one of the most saught after campaigns in the industry and rightly so! There is more than meets the eye with this supermodel.

Not only has she graced many a magazine cover (including British Vogue), opened many a catwalk show, been a Victoria Secret Model, she is also a coder…Yes, that’s right, this beauty certainly has brains too! She even started her own scholarship for those wanting to pursue their education in Computer Sciences. WOW. Karlie, we’re impressed.

We can’t think of a better role model for Topshop, given the brand’s influence on younger girls. She really is an inspiration!

Alexa Chung: A Fashion Icon

Alexa Chung

How can we possibly began to explain how much of an influence Alexa Chung has over the fashion world. Alexa’s first brush with the fashion world was at Reading Festival back when she was 16 years old. It was there where she was spotted by a scout from Storm Model agency and so her love affair with fashion and modelling began.

Alexa soon grew into a recognised T.V personality (remember Popworld on Channel 4?). She then went on and on and on…to present even more shows. How we all loved and laughed at Gok’s Fashion Fix! It was there that she truly made a name for herself, interviewing designers such as, Roberto Cavalli, Karl Lagerfield, Jean Paul Gautier, Margherita and Christian Lacroix. She told the world it was her “dream job”. Now that’s something we can all understand!

Words can’t describe…

Having written a monthly column for Company magazine and for the credited newspaper The Independent, where her column “Girl about Town” gained huge amount of devoted readers. But perhaps more impressive to the fashion pack, is that she was made a contributing editor for British Vogue in 2009.  Even the famously steely Anna Wintour described her as a “phenomenon” and that isn’t the only famous fashionista to have sent compliments her way, the likes of Channel designer Karl Lagerfield amongst others. She was even declared in the The New York Times as “the new generation Kate Moss”.

This lady is a muse for fashion designers all over, appeared on Tatler’s best dressed list, bagged the British Style Award (which was voted by us, the public) and she even has a Mulberry bag named after her! Now you can’t get more of a British style icon that that.

Alexa Chung’s best dressed – The Dress Edit

What makes Alexa Chung an icon is her ability to have so many different looks but somehow tie them all together beautifully with her own recognisable style. Something that all fashion lovers strive for.

1. The bohemian maxi

Here Alexa Chung has perfected the bohemian glamour that we strive for. The Maxi dress has a bohemian feel with the romantic billowing sleeves, but the sexy side split keeps your attention. Take a page out of Alexa’s book and pair your maxi dress with elegant pointy sandal and a colourful fur shrug, to give it a slight rock glam look.

2. The LBD prepped up

You can’t get more classic or elegant than the little black dress. The LBD acts as the perfect canvas for any outfit (be it day or night!). Team with a checked baby doll coat, pea-coat or trench coat to create your own look. Roll-up your sleeves to give the finished look a casual twist and team with preppy accessories. This look is smart and polished but when worn with a soft pink lip this keeps it from looking to hard.

If this is a look that has you weak at the knees then you should definitely take a look at our LBD’s.

This has to be the easiest and cutest Alexa Chung style to recreate…REALLY! Grab your cute black ballet pumps. A white blouse or t-shirt. A pinafore or dungaree style dress, in a soft charcoal shade or denim. All that’s left to complete the look is a vintage style handbag and sweep your hair up. Oh la la and she’s off!

The Denim Dress Edit: find your perfect fit

The Denim Dress Edit

The 90’s are back! That means dungarees and denim galore! Denim is not just for jeans and should no longer be lurking at the back of your wardrobes for casual weekends, that’s right there is a world of endless “denim-tastic” possibilities out there!

We saw celebrities, such as Alexa Chung and Fearne Cotton, proudly wearing their dungarees and now it’s time to get our denim on…about time too! And because of this happy denim explosion, this means that lucky for us there is a HUGE variety of styles, prices and yes…colours to choose from, so you can find your perfect fit of denim dress. So ladies, that being said, it’s time to find your perfect denim dress look.

The Denim Shirt Dress (WITH a waist)

The denim shirt dress

This is the perfect style for a more chic look. It has all the charm of being a casual denim dress, but can be dressed up or down to suit the mood. The cinched waist means it is flattering and draws the eye attention inwards. A perfect choice for casual Fridays at the office, still chic but in a more laid-back way, just the way it should be.

Tip: We are loving this Karen Millen denim number, which is the perfect transition piece for your wardrobe and embodies this trend down to a tee. Also Diesel have hit the nail on the head with this great tie waist dress and super flattering sleeve.

The Dungarees Denim Dress

Denim Dungarees Dresses

This is a more playful denim dress look and really a nod to the 90’s at it’s best. It can be girly when teamed with a pretty blouse or chilled with a slouchy jumper or t-shirt. Go for a white t-shirt for a fresh everyday style.

Tip: Check out this gorgeous Topshop dress and it’s only £ 32 !! and for a more vinatge take on the dungarees dress, Urban Renewal and MinkPink has just what your looking for!

The Boyfriend Denim Dress

The Boyfriend Denim Dress

So many options with this one, but again the idea is that you shouldn’t look like you have tried and well actually you don’t need to with this style. It really is the best possible style and it gives that “Oh this? I just threw it on” look and yep…you did, but with flare. The key with this trend is because of it’s looser silhouette, it is essential that you make up for it with being girly in other aspects of your outfit. This style is best when kept minimal. Minimal, fresh make-up, statement jewelry, a bright colourful bag, statement shoes or chuck on your trainers. Wear the collar on your denim dress done right up, all neat and tidy for a preppy look or undo a couple of cheeky buttons and layer a plain top underneath.

Tip: Shirt style dresses, such as, this one by s.Oliver denim dress is a great versatile choice, that will see you through all the seasons, come rain or shine. But if you fancy saving a bit of extra cash, then Vero Moda have got it spot on!

The Designer Denim Dress

Designer Denim Dresses

If you haven’t noticed yet, then you will pleased to hear that denim got a makeover, with brands, like Vivienne Westwood giving us more than just the standard. But then let’s be honest when did that ever happen. Pops of colour, patterns, washes and embroidery…anything is possible. Think outside the box.

Tip: Still want to make an impact, but at less than half the price? Then it’s worth taking a peek at this Noisy May denim dress and this Paramita denim dress.

Tip: Undo your denim dress completely…wait for it..and wear it as a jacket…now that’s 90’s.
